Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push. A smile. A world of optimism and hope. A “you can do it” when things are tough.

Today is the 85th birthday of Amway co-founder Rich DeVos, making it the perfect time to share a few thoughts about the man who continues to inspire all of us here at Amway every day.

When we think about the Power of Positive and how this simple phrase has come to shape North American Amway Independent Business Owners, Amway, and our employees, we of course think of Rich.

We reflect upon how he and Amway co-founder Jay Van Andel started our company in 1959, and built that company into a global celebration of free enterprise and the power that we all possess, to positively change people’s lives.

Rich made a difference in the world, not only as an incredibly innovative and successful businessperson, but also as a motivational speaker whose words continue to inspire audiences every day: young and old, wealthy or just starting out, from all walks of life, within and outside of Amway.

We know of no one else who can transform a few notes scribbled on the back of an envelope into a message of hope so heartfelt and effective, it can make grown men (and women) weep – then, feel empowered to change their own lives and make a difference in the lives of others.

That’s Rich’s legacy. That’s the Rich DeVos we celebrate today. At 85 years, he’s still going strong. Still motivating people to dream big dreams. Still inspiring them to make those dreams happen.

Our gift to Rich today is our deep gratitude to him for being a leader like no other, and the promise to spread the Power of Positive to everyone we meet.

After all, Rich said it best: “Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push.”
